Macau weather is classified as humid subtropical, a factor attributed to the city’s location on the northern border of the tropical zone. The monsoons so typical of the whole region have an indelible mark on then patterns of  Macau weather thus differences in humidity and temperature from summer to winter are noticeable. Very high humidity levels are also a characteristic of weather in Macau, and can reach anywhere between 75% and 90%. Due to Macau’s location in the coastal area of south of China, sufficient precipitation averages annually about 2030mm, the majority of rainfall occuring in the afternoons.

Summer
Weather in Macau during the long summer season (commencing in May it runs all the way through to September) is characterized by hot, humid, wet conditions. Annual average temperatures are 22.7 °C; July is the warmest month and sees daytime temperatures rise to above 30 °C. The hot weather is frequently pursued by heavy rain, thunderstorm, and occasional typhoons.

Spring
Weather in Macau during spring is characterized by moist and foggy conditions, and elevated humidity levels that begin to rise during spring from late march to June. Springtime (March and April) is also something of a the transitional period. The wind direction alongside the coastal district of South China is primarily easterly to southeasterly, which in turn increases the temperature and humidity levels. Throughout the transition stage from northeast monsoon to southwest monsoon, Macau weather is clammy and hazy. The existing winds and weather types alter patterns of weather in Macau. Southeast and southwest winds blowing in from either the Pacific or Indian Ocean change conditions to warm and moist, but when north winds arriving from Mongolia or Siberia hit the city, conditions become dry and somewhat cold.

Autumn
Macau weather during winter is said to be the best time to visit. Between mid September to late October, conditions are predominated by warm and sunny days with clear skies and low humidity levels. This is when the southwest monsoon begins to depart and the northeast monsoon moves forward south.

Winter
Macau weather during winter (November to February) is characterized by mild sunny days which occasionally turn wet and cold. Cold air flowing constantly in from north Siberia and passing mid and South China into the Macau district produces chilly and arid northerly winds. The coldest month of the year is January averaging temperatures of between 10.0 °C to 15.0 °C.
